If you’re in Montreal or elsewhere in Quebec, don’t forget that Friday, June 24 is Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, also known as The Fête Nationale. Many stores, restaurants, and shopping malls will be closed on this day. Be sure to do your shopping early and stock up on holiday essentials. All SAQ liquor stores will be closed.
City of Montreal offices will also be closed. This includes borough offices. Buses, trains and metros will run on weekend schedules. Public markets will be open regular hours, however. Bookstores, flower stores and antique shops throughout the province of Quebec can remain open if they wish. Pharmacies are generally open but may be running on a holiday schedule with reduced hours. Movie cinemas are mostly open. Montreal Casino? That’s always open!
If you’re not sure whether your favorite store or restaurant will be open on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, be sure to call ahead and confirm hours of operation before heading out. Mark the date now so you don’t forget: Friday, June 24, 2016.
