Tax Day is on Monday, April 18, 2016. Yes, I said April 18th, not the 15th. Because of a Washington DC holiday and the weekend, you get 3 extra days to file your 2015 tax returns! While few people think of Tax Day as a holiday, it has become somewhat of a promotional event for stores and restaurants during the past few years. Many stores are having special Tax Day Sales or offering freebies on April 18. Several restaurants are featuring specials and free menu items. Your favorite shopping mall may be having a Tax Day promotion with special deals at participating stores.
As far as shopping hours, nearly all stores, restaurants, and shopping centers will be open with regular hours of operation on April 18. They don’t close early on Tax Day. In fact, some businesses have extended hours to coincide with Tax Day promotions. Even though few Post Offices still stay open until the 12:00 midnight deadline for last-minute filers, you’ll see some restaurants and stores promoting “last-minute Tax Day sales and deals.”
Don’t forget to get your income tax returns done before the April 18 deadline. The IRS frowns on late returns! Nobody wants to pay extra interest and penalties. Then, relax and take advantage of the numerous special discounts and promotions taking place on Tax Day: April 18, 2016.
